With the recent trend of larger helmets in the Tour de France, we’re not surprised to see Kask go big with their new Bambino Pro model. Ridden by Tom Pidcock and Adam Yates, this helmet is sure to turn heads with its large size. However, it’s not just the size that makes this helmet weird, but also the design. Thankfully, we’re not at the stage yet where all helmets look like this, but we reckon Bigham has something to do with our next weird helmet.

Why does Wout Van Aert Wear Red Bull helmet?
It is understood that the UCI – the world governing body of cycling – has given Wout Van Aert permission to wear a red and silver helmet on the road, instead of the plain white helmet that is usually worn.
The helmet is made by Belgian manufacturer Specialized and is based on the company’s S-Works Prevail design. It is Sponsored by Red Bull, who also sponsor the Dutch rider’s cyclocross team.
While the helmet itself is not contentious, some in the peloton may take issue with the fact that Van Aert is essentially allowed to wear advertising on his head while racing.
However, it is understood that the UCI has given Van Aert special dispensation to wear the helmet because of the nature of his contract with Red Bull. The energy drink company also sponsors his cyclocross team, which means he is required to wear their colours when racing.
The UCI has not yet commented on the matter.
With the Tour de France just around the corner, we thought it was time to take a look at the helmets that teams will be wearing during the event. We were curious to see if there were any new brands or noteworthy absentees.
In terms of new brands, there are none present at this year’s Tour. However, there are a few notable absentees. The most notable of these is Bell, who have been a major player in the helmet market for many years. They are not present at this year’s Tour, and it is not clear why.
Ekoi and Specialized are the two most represented brands at this year’s Tour, with three teams each wearing their helmets. This is followed by Abus and HJC, with two teams each.
It is interesting to note that most of the teams who are sponsored by major bike brands (e.g. Trek, Cannondale, etc.) are wearing helmets from those brands. However, there are a few exceptions, such as BMC who are sponsored by GCN’s sister brand, Scott.
All in all, it should be an exciting Tour de France, with plenty of new bikes and products on display. We can’t wait to see what the next three weeks
